GRAND CANYON NATIONAL PARK

Located entirely in Northern Arizona the Grand Canyon is the "greatest eroded canyon in the United States." It is considered one of the finest examples in the world of arid-land erosion. The canyon is known for its overwhelming size and its intricate and colorful landscape. Geologically it is significant because of the thick sequence of ancient rocks that are beautifully preserved and exposed in the walls. These rock layers record much of the early geologic history of the North American continent.

Auto traffic is limited along the South Rim (the most visited part of the park). Shuttle bus service transports visitors to all major sites and overlooks on the South Rim.

The South Rim main entrance (open year-round) is located approximately 1 1/2 hours Northwest of Flagstaff via U.S. Hwy 180 or 1 hour North of Williams, AZ off I-40 West of Flagstaff. The North Rim (closed in Winters) is much more remote and is accessed by State Route 67 off U.S. Hwy Alt 89 between Page, AZ and Kanab, UT.
