OAK STREET BEACH, CHICAGO, ILLINOIS
Chicago's Oak Street Beach is the most popular of all the city's many beaches that it maintains. Oak Street Beach, along Lake Michigan's shores, is a trendy spot with a wide sandy beach, but be early to get a good spot. The Northern part of the beach is where the most fashionable folks gather to be seen, while the Southern part of the beach is a bit quieter. In addition to the sand, there are concrete patios available for the sunworshiper. Here you will see local businessmen with trousers rolled up, tourists, bikini-clad beauties, bicyclists, musclemen, skaters, as well as families. The John Hancock Center, Drake Hotel, Palmolive Building, and other parts of the Chicago skyland provide a backdrop to the beach. Oak Street Beach also has a good selection of food for dining at the Oak Street Beach-stro.
Swim, skate, bike, play beach volleyball, soak up the sun, watch the people, or enjoy an evening stroll when the sand cools. Oak Street Beach, as well as most of Chicago's beaches, are open Memorial Day Weekend through Laobr Day, from 9:00 AM to 9:30 PM. Located off 1000 North Lake Shore Drive, there are undergound tunnels at Oak & Division Streets for Oak Street Beach access.
Other popular beaches in Chicago include the 31st Street Beach at 3100 South Lake Shore Drive, and North Avenue Beach at 1600 North Lake Shore Drive.
